“I am horrified by the recent violence that we are witness across the nation, intimidation, threats to life and violence erode our fundamental values of democracy.
The injuries sustained by numerous police officers while maintaining peace are alarming, and I am very concerned at the scale of violence that may follow in the coming days.
Addressing the riots is a short-term solution; deeper, long-term issues persist. The perception of unequal policing has spread nationwide and the Prime Minister's inadequate handling of the current crisis has intensified this sense of injustice.
We need an open discussion about these crucial issues that are dividing our communities, and we must work together to address the root causes of the many issues that led to the riots this weekend.
The violence must stop now!”
